6th International Meeting

September 10-16, 2007, San Francisco Bay Area

WGS hosts the International Women's Network Against Militarism's 6th international meeting: Women Working for Human Rights, Sustainability and Everyday Security. This meeting brings together 80 women from Korea, Okinawa, Hawaii, Guam, Puerto Rico, Philippines, mainland Japan and the U.S. to share information and strategize about the negative effects of US military operations in all our countries.

The meeting will include:

  • Evening events hosted by Bay Area community groups with speakers from International and local organizers (open to the public).
  • Military-Corporate/Genuine Security bus tour
  • In-depth discussions among international participants and local activists e.g. violence against women/trafficking, conscientious objection & counter-recruitment, military contamination, base conversion, sustainable communities.
  • Saturday evening Cultural and Art Performance on Militarism and Women's Resistances (open to the public)
  • Media interviews, linking international and local organizing

We invite participation from Bay Area women to

  • host an evening meeting featuring talks on women’s organizing (open to public)
  • present your work as part of the Military-corporate/Genuine Security bus tour
  • come to the Saturday evening Performance to watch or to perform
  • work on the translation team – Korean, Japanese, English, Spanish and Tagalog
  • work on the logistics team (creating banners, postcards, media work etc.)

We want to make stronger connections with Bay Area groups who share our concerns, to take inspiration from each others, and find ways to work more closely together in the future.
